Angel Wings: Overcoming Fear with Psalm 91 and God’s Protection

Angel Wings: Overcoming Fear with Psalm 91 and God’s Protection

A square oil painting of large, majestic angel wings with warm amber, gold, and soft white tones, glowing with divine light against a deep midnight blue and stormy purple sky. Classical painterly style with visible brushstrokes, reminiscent of Renaissance sacred art. The mood is protective, peaceful, and awe-inspiring — light emanating from within the wings themselves, as if heaven is breaking through darkness. No frames, no borders, no decorative frame elements — pure painting edge to edge.

When Fear Has a Doorway

“Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.” — Psalm 91:5–6 (KJV)

We need never fear the darkness or the shadows that come in the night. We need never fear the plagues that come at noon day. Our God is always there in the day and in the night.

A Doorway to Fear

I used to be frightfully afraid of the demonic realm. When I was younger I lived in a house that was “haunted,” and it was a very unsettling experience as you can imagine. We moved, and I was at peace, but the fears came back over me after a time had passed. A doorway to fear had been opened in me and that allowed the enemy a foothold to strike fear into my heart…. And this lasted for a few years… until the Lord introduced me to Psalm 91, and He gave me an amazing vision to go with it.

The Vision of Angels

One night after praying through this psalm, I had a vision of a group of angels covering my bed and my home. (God uses dreams and visions as one way to speak to us). I was filled with the peace of God and I no longer had the fears or the nightmares.

It’s hard for us to understand just what angels are because we don’t often see them. But I know they are real. Their sole purpose is to serve God and do what He asks.

I want to encourage you that if you are being tormented by fearful thoughts no matter if it’s something big like finances and global upheaval or something small and personal, God is in control and just a whisper away. He WILL give you your peace back.

Why I Wrote Angel Wings

So I wrote the song Angel Wings as a reminder that the devil has no power over us! God is everywhere… the devil can’t be everywhere at once… AND he is defeated! All we have to do is call on the name of God and He and His angels come running!

Reflection

What fear has been given a doorway in your life? Name it honestly. Then pray through Psalm 91 out loud over your home tonight and ask God to show you what He has already placed around you.

Pray: Father, You are my refuge. I have carried fears that were never mine to carry, and I have given them room. Today I close that door. Thank You that You never sleep, that You are with me in the day and in the night, and that Your peace is just a whisper away.
