3 Keys to Unlock Intimacy With God – Part 2

A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Proverbs 17:22

Key 2. A Thankful heart.

Thankfulness is one of the major keys that opens the door of heaven in your life. God is a constant optimist. There is no negativity in God. There is no darkness. He is every good thing. The words impossible don’t exist in his kingdom. He is the God of all things possible.

God loves thankfulness. I want you to try a little experiment with me. Think of something in your life right now that is a problem. When you think of it, how does it make you feel? Do you feel heavy? Do you feel depressed? Do you feel angry or confused?

Now, take that problem and thank God for creating a solution for it. Thank him that he is going to fix it. Thank him that you don’t have to try and fix it yourself.

How does that feel?

You either feel lighter, or you are struggling to believe that God will fix it. If you are struggling, that’s OK. You just need a bit more time to let God show you that he hears you, and is working for you.

Remember that you are not just speaking words out into the universe. You are speaking to the one true God that created the universe. He hears you. And he is more than capable of fixing your situation.

Praise

Another way that thankfulness plays a role in your journey with God is that when you begin to thank him, it’s like praise to him. Think about it. Isn’t it nice when someone thanks you for something? Isn’t it nice when they praise you for how well do something? God is no different. He gives and receives love just like you do. After all, he created you in his image.

Now, I’m not talking about saying things to God just to butter him up. I’m talking about real honest praise. The amazing thing that happens when you praise him is that it opens up all the good things of heaven over you.

Remember that good feeling you get when someone praises you? When you praise God, you begin to receive the love he is feeling.

Angels

Another amazing thing that happens when you praise God is that it releases his angels on our behalf. When you thank him for healing your child or providing money, or anything that you need, he releases his angels to fight for you.

There are God’s angles, and there are fallen angels. The fallen angels are the ones who are behind all the mischief in your life. They are the ones who tempt you to step away from God.

God’s angels fight those fallen ones. As the apostle, Paul says in Ephesians 6:12

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Keep in mind that a lot of troubles in your life are due to this. But, remember that you have a weapon  … thankfulness!

As you go about your meditation today, spend a few minutes just thanking God for his great ability to fix the broken things in your life. They can be big or small. Thank him for providing, thank him for the roof over your head, your car, your family, your job, and watch what he does! And see how it changes how you feel inside.
