It’s fear and anxiety that block our ability to be a rest and hear God. But, there is a quiet in the storm. There is peace in the tempest. God never leaves us for a minute, though in those moments when trouble arises, fear takes over our senses and it feels like he is not there.
Do you need to feel the calm in the storm?
Sometimes we all need a little help getting there. Whenever I’m anxious and full of fear, and it happens, and sometimes it takes a minute for me to realize that i giving into it. But then I catch myself and remember that I don’t have to let this fear take control. God gave us his spirit and the power of prayer to overcome these times.
The best way I have found when this happens is to just get in a quiet place and speak the peace of God over my mind. In all situations, Jesus spoke to the storm, and we can do the same. We can speak to the things that are tormenting us. He tells us to speak to the mountain, speak to the rain, and to speak his name.
And when I have a quiet minute to myself, I like to close my eyes, put on either worship music or something soothing, and let God wash over me. Sometimes all we need is his presence to reassure us that this fear has no grounds and does not come from him.
Below are some great scriptures that are great reminders of this truth.
We don’t have to be victims! We are over-comers!
Scriptures
Mark 4:39 39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Zephaniah 3:17The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.”
Reflection
As you spend time with the Lord today, as you speak peace over your situation, He will quiet you with His love. He will still the waters, your peace will return, and you can hear clearly from him. I wrote a song called Speak My Name that speaks into this situation, no matter what you are going through. As you head into your quiet time today, play this track and let the truth wash over you.
The track I’m sharing is a demo that hasn’t been released yet. If you enjoy the song, please comment below. Let me know if you’d like to see it fully produced and released as a single.
