3 Keys to Unlock Intimacy With God – Part 1

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27

Key 1. God is calling YOU!

This is a journey you are embarking on. You are on a journey to know your heavenly father and creator, as well you getting to know yourself! As you draw closer to him he will begin to reveal to you great things about who you are, and how he sees you. When he looks at you he sees his beautiful child. He is longing to have a relationship with you MORE than you do!

If you are reading this right now you can be assured that he is the one that is calling you to him. Meditating with Christian Meditation is a path to the greatest intimacy the world has ever known.

Put Christ in Christian Meditation.

There is one major component involved with Christian Meditation. The kind of meditation I’m talking about here is not the same kind of meditation as in Buddhism, or New Age, or other eastern philosophies. That type of meditation is based on a mantra or special word that you repeat over and over, to enter into peace, or oneness with the universe.

There are no mantras or secret words needed to enter the kingdom of heaven. The only key to the kingdom of heaven is through the belief that Jesus is the son of God and that he is the lord of your life. Don’t be fooled by anyone telling you that you have to perform, or do good works, or just  “be a good person” to gain entrance. Desiring to do good is an overflow effect when your heart meets God. You become his child and he is so good, you want to be like him. But, there is nothing you can DO outside of accepting him into your heart to enter eternal life. *If you have not done this yet, I have a sample prayer at the bottom of this page you can pray.

Things that may hinder you

Learning to hear the voice of God, and finding his peace takes a bit of patience. There are usually layers of walls around your heart in the beginning that could prevent you from hearing and settling into his love.

God has a set of universal laws that he put in place to create good things in your life. When these laws are broken (sin) it stops the flow of God’s blessing in your life.

Let me give you a visual example. Imagine there is a river that is full and flowing. This river flows down the mountains to the valley. Along the way down, large rocks and tree limbs fall down on it,(unforgiveness, anger, hatred, bitterness, etc.) and eventually, the stream stops flowing. The water can’t get past the blockage unless the rocks and tree limbs are removed. Sin is like that. It blocks the flow of the river of God to our hearts.  Once the limbs and rocks are removed from our hearts, the river begins to flow and the connection to the heavenly realms is open.

I had a lot of bitterness and anger in my heart many years ago against certain friends and family members. It blocked love and joy from touching my heart. After I forgave them before God, my heart was healed. Here is an account of my personal experience when God unblocked my heart.

Preparing Your Journey

When you sit down to meditate with him, just keep one thing in mind. He loves you. He is thrilled that you are putting aside time to be with him.

A few things to remember if you get stuck …

1. Listen to the guided meditation track to help jumpstart your heart and mind in the right direction.

2. Don’t judge yourself if nothing happens during the first 10 minutes. You are planting seeds that will reap a harvest soon! Remember that this is not about perfection. This is not about God judging you if you fail. It does not mean that you are unworthy, or doing something wrong. It’s the beginning of something great! A tiny seed that is just beginning to germinate.

3. Journal your thoughts. Keep track of your feelings and thoughts during the 10 minutes. Don’t be afraid of negative feelings. God is a great listener. As you journal, ask him to show you where you may have a blockage. He may show you through an impression, a sense about something, a word, picture, a vision .. there is no limit to how God can speak to you.

The important thing here is that you are building a relationship. You are connecting with your father in heaven. He is going to interact with you. He is going to open up the locked gates between you.

Sample prayer to enter the Kingdom of Heaven

*Dear God in heaven. I thank you for my life and the life you have for me for all eternity. I want to know your son Jesus. Please forgive me for the ways I have allowed sin to rule my life and allowed it to separate us. I forgive the people who have sinned against me also. Show me who Jesus is, and show me how to make him the Lord of my life. Thank you, God, for accepting me today, as I accept you,  Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

I would be remiss in not mentioning that God does take unrepentant sin seriously. BUT, as the apostle Paul says ….

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. No matter how small the sin is, it is missing the mark of holiness set by God. Thankfully, Jesus died to pay the penalty for all sins—big sins and little sins". Romans 6:23

You can clear the rocks and tree limbs out of the way!
