Call Her Blessed: A Mother’s Day Devotional for Every Mom

Mother’s Day is a time of celebration for most. Most of us have a mother or we had a mother. If we were lucky we had one that was gentle, sweet, nurturing and kind. That is the picture of what a mother is supposed to be. When God created woman out of Adam’s rib, he gave her all the tender and beautiful qualities that were part of his (God’s) nature. Women are strong in a way that men are not. It’s strong to be able to bear a child, raise it, and then let it go.

Being a mother is a gift from God. They come from out of the womb that he created to be raised and nurtured and shaped into loving and compassionate adults. A life without a mother leaves an empty space where flowers should have grown. A life without a mother leaves a hole that should be filled with kindness and tenderness.

But today we lift up our glasses and drink a toast to the mothers that were present. To the moms who didn’t always get it right but at the end of the day, we knew we were loved.

Maybe you are a mom. Maybe there were days you wanted to quit and call it a day. Maybe there were days when you thought “this is not what I signed up for.” But then you look around at the beautiful garden that God gave you to look after, just for a season of this never-ending lifetime, and all of the tears and anguish of those days have long faded away.

It is on this day that we celebrate you.

Today we call you blessed!

Scripture

“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her” — Proverbs 31:28

Devotional — A Word From The Lord

Blessed is your womb for I have made you fruitful. You carried the fruit of generations to come, my seed that will replenish the earth. Your task was not an easy one and you bore it well. Gone are the days of weaning yet a mother’s job is never done. Blessed are you in this day and hour for you are called to lead generations. With my hand and your hand on the plow your offspring will carry the torch that I have placed in them to bear much fruit also.

Prayer

Father God, thank you for all the ways you have blessed me. Thank you for being there on those days that were so rough. I thank you that my days are not over and there is much more that I can do to love and nurture my children and the ones to come. I thank you for giving me wisdom to know when to speak and when to step back. I thank you for covering my family in the ways that I can’t. Show me how to pray daily and how to enjoy the years I have ahead.
